Daffodils -also known as the trumpet narcissus come in many varieties. You will see many of these beauties blooming in the valley right now.  The most common color to watch for is yellow. 

 

Hint:  Once the blooms are spent, pinch off the faded flowers leaving the stems in place.  Removing the blooms speeds up the storage process and will encourage more blooms next year.

 

Leave the leaves, Please.  When its leaves become yellow, the daffodil can become unsightly.  But, as with all spring-flowering bulbs, be careful not to lift them from the garden until their leaves fully ripen.

 

Hint:  Shield the unsightly yellow leaves from sight with the use of companion plants.  Inter plant the bulbs with annuals and perennials, whose foliage will mask the daffodil's dying leaves
